Celebrate the opening day of the 8th Annual Mason County WinterFisch season that will run from Dec. 7th 2024 through March 16th, 2025 by venturing out to the James River Crossing of the Llano River at Hwy 2389, a short and scenic 8 miles south of Mason. Enjoy rainbow trout fishing, outdoor and fishing demos, local music, food vendors and cook-your-catch, and a great afternoon on the beautiful Llano River. Loaner fishing poles available. The 8th Annual WinterFisch Celebration is the opening day event for the 8th Annual Mason County WinterFisch (WinterFisch) rainbow trout fishing season. WinterFisch is a 3.5 month long rainbow trout fishing event at the James River Crossing of the Llano River south of Mason, Texas. From Dec 7th 2024 through March 16th, 2025, Twenty-five-hundred rainbow trout are released into the Llano River by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. The fishing event is FREE to the public, with the fish and related events sponsored completely by local and area business sponsors. Some fish are tagged for cash prizes and a chance to win a prize in the end of season grand prize drawing.

The Winter Fisch Celebration and Mason County WinterFisch occurs at the James River Crossing of the Llano River at Highway 2389 and includes The Island, Dos Rios RV Park, and the James River Icehouse. To get there, take Hwy 87 South out of Mason for 1 mile. Turn right onto Hwy. 1731 for 2 miles. Turn right onto Hwy. 2389 for 5 miles to the James River Crossing of the Llano River.
