Free Classic Movie Night @ the Odeon - "Steel Magnolias"

The Odeon Theater’s free Classic Movie Night on Sept. 16 pays tribute to Dolly Parton with a showing of “Steel Magnolias,” the beloved 1989 comedy drama starring Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, Sally Field, Daryl Hannah, and Julia Roberts.
The film pivots around the lively Truvy Jones' Louisiana beauty parlour, where a tightly-knit band of women celebrate friendship, hope, and happiness and confront grief, loss, and heartaches with what they do best: gossiping and sharing. Parton, who plays Truvy, is the emotional anchor of the story and her salon serves as a sanctuary for the community of women. “She’s no different from me at all,” Parton told the Today show in 1989, referring to her character.
