City Administrator

The City of Mason, Texas is accepting applications for a City Administrator.  Applications and resumes to be returned to City Hall, 124 Moody St., P.O. Salary negotiable dependent upon experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Work under the direction of the City Commission, the City Administrator is responsible for the City’s overall management and administration and serves as the chief administrative and executive officer. The general functions of this position include assisting City Commission with the development of city policies, and carrying out policies established by ordinances, resolutions, and City Commission directives. Exercise supervision over the City’s general affairs and all departments, employees, contractors, and agents with the exception of the City Secretary, City Attorney and Municipal Judge. Plan, organize, direct, and monitor City operations, activities, and budgets. Provide the tools, training, and resources for the effective operations of city services and delivery of effective customer service.   Attend all meetings of the City Commission and the Planning and Zoning Commission and prepare written reports to the City Commission showing operations and activities of each department and advise at all times the financial conditions and needs at all times.   Act as the Purchasing Agent for the City and bid projects as needed.  Shall be responsible for obtaining all engineering services to carry out City operations.  Provide leadership and direction in the development of short and long range plans.   

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the principles & practices applied to the organization, management, and administration of local governments.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of municipal planning, administration and budget preparation.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply Federal, State, and Local regulations, policies, ordinances or codes that are applicable to the position responsibilities including compliance and reporting.
  • Ability to develop, implement and administer goals, objectives and procedures to provide efficient, effective services to Mason.
  • Ability to analyze problems, create alternate solutions, consider consequences of proposed actions and implement the support of established goals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and officials, other government officials, community groups, and the public.  
  • Ability to provide strong customer service in work and communication with coworkers, management, elected officials and citizens.
  • Skills in research, writing, computer applications, and effective communication on all matters related to the City of Mason.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred degree in public administration, business administration, a related field or extensive knowledge and experience in municipal operations.
  • Preferred minimum of 5 years of municipal experience, including experience in an administrative capacity and work with financial and budgetary planning and management.
  • Class C driver’s license.
